CL-1 Promises of DSM.5 and the Current Realities: Implications for Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis and Treatment Lakshmi N. Yatham DSM.5 promised to revolutionize the way we diagnose psychiatric illnesses by incorporating biological and genetic markers and introduce dimensional system to more accurately capture the complexity of psychiatric presentations. The objective of this presentation is to review in broader terms some of the major changes in DSM.5, and outline where it fell short in expectations. As well, this presentation will address in greater detail changes to the categories and criteria as they pertain to bipolar disorder and how these changes impact our diagnostic practice and treatment decisions. Finally, the implications of these changes for future research will also be addressed.
